School Uniforms?
Although I never thought I would hear myself say it, the idea of school uniforms has become fairly appealing. As a staff, we can clearly see the benefits of eliminating the class consciousness that comes with fashion and labels. We'd like students to be judged by their peers based on their character rather than by their parents purchasing power. During vacation, I talked to a number of middle and high school students at private schools with dress codes and all felt it helped behavior and sense of pride. This is something to think about. How would parents feel about a school "uniform"? What do students think? A polo shirt or button down shirt and khakis?

well i think there can be certain benefits but to support school uniforms i would have to feel comfortable in them myself and i would hope that this school would be different then the other uniformed schools by letting the girls do their hair as they like and such things like that.
The "class" issue is huge and name is everything when it comes to fashion/class. Does it effect learning? I would be interested in hearing what the answer might be. It would certainly eliminate a number of issues at the middle level but what other issues will rear their ugly heads?
Like the reading list. I seem to read Stegner in bundles. He can tell a marvelous tale.
Keep the questions coming!
I think we should have school uniforms! There would be less bullying about what you wear, and it would be way easier to get dressed in the morning. i vote yes! plaid skirts (red) and pretty polos (white) for girls and khakis and polos for guys.
it sounds okay but i like having the choices of wat i get to wear
DON'T GET UNIFORMS IT WOULD BE AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!
hey watup! i really want uniforms! They would be so amazing!!!!!!!! It would be way easier for girls to get dressed and there would be a lot less bullying!!!!! I LOVE UNIFORMSSSS!
oh yea and plaid skirt for girls. no khakis for girls. i dont care what guys wear.
we realllllllllllllly want schoool uniforms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we think it would be really coooool!!!! it would DEFINITELY help the bullying problem because alot of times peoplemake fun of each other on what they're wearing. kidsfeel like they have to wear a certain brand in order to fit in (like abercrombie and fitch or hollister or ae). sooooooooooooooooo we think school uniforms would totttally help the bullying problem!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE END!!
I think that school uniforms are a very good idea because kids feel pressured to wear clothes from certain expensive clothes that some can not afford. So they feel less than others and it can create a big problem. So that is why many of the sudents agree with the great idea!!!
Many of us, students, agree with the uniforms because we feel like we need to buy certain clothes to fit in. At this age many girls and boys don't look past aperence. But some of us cannot afford the "in" clothing. Thank you for listening to us!
i dont think that school uniforms would be good at some times and good at others. like for one thing if girls were to wear skirts then its maine so that would be kinda cold. but i think it would be cool. but i like my clothes and i buy them because i want to wear them to school to show my friends. then if there were uniforms i would have to invite all my many friends over to my house. and so of those friends well i dont really want them to come to my home.....idk why but i just dont really know them but we have like one class together that we hang out in. yea.......so i guess i dont really want school uniforms because if you want a uniform join sports. i play field hockey and i wear the uniform in that so im good for uniforms. thank you.....also to get this going you should like talk to people about it like in that mini theater because im sure some people would love or like to talk to you about this matter.
i do NOT want school uniforms!!!!! :D
I think it is wonderful that you are willing to think "out of the box" and to be willing to consider change. You have put this concept out there for all to ponder. It sure is a nice way at this rather interesting time in development, to lift this possible area of stress, right out of the equation! Horray! There must be many issues that surround this topic and reasons for concern, or this idea would never have been proposed. If having uniforms could have a positive impact and create a greater level of comfort...then why not try?.....
I AM FINE WITH THAT BUT CORDUROYS!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT KAHAKIS
I think uniforms would be good if we could wear corduroys also. I wear polos and button ups on a regular basis. I think they are much more atractive then other shirts with brand labels such as, american eagle, abercrombie, and hollister etc.
I think the idea of having school uniforms defeats the purpose of student individuality. I have never heard anyone bullied or teased about what they have been wearing and I think students should be able to show their personal style through clothing. If we were to have school uniforms they should NOT be khakis and a button down polo shirt. If there must be a polo shirt involved, can the girls at least wear a skirt?! (And knee high socks. . . and a blazer. . . and a tie.) Oh, boys should have to wear a tie too! Put some plaid in there for gosh sakes!
I think that school uniforms would be awful! One of the many goods of having children or the students picking out there clothes is they get to express there outfits to try to fit who they are!
Some fifth graders were discussing this option over the summer and thought it would be much easier than figuring out the dress code. As a parent, it has great appeal - saves time shopping, time getting ready in the morning, and the heartache of your child not having the perfect jeans or shoes. Keep mulling it over!
As appealing as it may be to have students uniformly dressed in khakis and button down shirts, etc. and having heard all the arguments and having taught in schools with and without uniforms hundreds of times i would argue that the energy expended on the debate is not worth it. Establish basic guidelines that allow for individuality of expression and consider that a positive thing. Any effort to discourage individuality in school is a bad thing. We have much that already encourages "sameness." And although middle school fashion is not the place I want my son distinguishing himself i still would vote strongly against uniforms. Doug Day
I do not like the idea of school uniforms. I mean, by not having school uniforms, each kid in CRMS has the chance to show their personality by the way they dress. I do however recomend that we have a rule that we cant have any riped clothing.
school uniforms would be ok. I just think that they should be red and white and we can wear any shoes and no skirts. How about tan pants and red shirts with schooners on them that would be cool! on the other hand it would be kind of weird all looking the same=(So I don't really care.
well........ I really don't think we should, because we can't show our personality and then there's no point
I think it's an okay idea, but I think we should be able to add our own style to it. Other wise we'll all look the same and look like robots! Sorry if that sounds rude but that's just my input! Thanks for listening! :D
